About Olney - Pancake RaceOlney was packed for the pancake race (Tuesday 16th February) with hundreds lining the famous route from the Market Place to the parish church. In a break from tradition, organisers allowed a man and non-Olney resident to participate this year. Joel from Blue Peter wore a long blond wig, headscarf and apron and told OlneyOnline "I'm all woman". The winner was Jane Hughes, Nicky Sallis (raising money for Whizzkids) was second and Joel third. He gallantly stepped aside to let Nicky past: "That's the kind of woman I am". Photo report here. Festivities started in the Market Place with junior races. The pancake stalls in both the Market Place and Church Hall were popular. The parish church was packed for the Shriving service and runners procession. OlneyOnline spoke to the winners at the pancake party. Interested in the history of the race? Please click here. |
