The Duck RaceThe annual duck race down near the historic Olney bridge was bathed in sunshine. Crowds packed the area to see the stream of plastic ducks meandering down the River Great Ouse - and to watch to see if their sponsored duck would win. After the launch by Rev.Claire Wood, the ducks made good progress by the weir. They were in danger of beaching too early half way down the distance, but the volunteer divers from Northampton sub-aqua club threw them back on course. Nearly £1,000 was raised from the race for the 1st Olney Scout group. Their drink sales alone on the flaming hot June day were considerable. |
