Stockgrove Country Park
Stockgrove Country Park has open meadows with views across the oldest woodlands in Bedfordshire. It is situated on the Greensand Ridge and is managed by the Greensand Trust.
Explore the woods, to find a hidden hand-dug lake. Brick arches remain of the boathouse that was claimed by fire. You may catch site of the mandarin ducks who call this home.Some of the oak woodland in the area is a site of special scientific interest.
The Trust notes this is what you can see here: "In spring: bluebells, lily of the valley & other woodland flowers, warblers, butterflies, common lizards; In Summer: heather, butterflies (purple hairstreak, white admiral);
Autumn: woodland colours, fungi. Winter: migrant birds, eg crossbills, Mandarins in mating plumage."
On the main walk it is suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs. Please note cycling is NOT permitted. Dogs are allowed if kept on leads
You'll find the park between Leighton Buzzard and Milton Keynes, with easy access from the A5.
Point of interest: The Bedfordshire Bat group have been monitoring bats in the park since 1988 and are looking for new members to help in the survey. www.beds.batgroup.org.uk
