Pancake Party UPDATED 2015 Our archive photographs show the Carlton Club in Olney hosting a Pancake Party and Prize-giving. It's where the annual transatlantic phone-call to Liberal, USA is made for the result of the International Pancake race. Jane Hughes, pictured with her bouquet won the race for three years in a row was in large part down to her weekly sessions with the Olney Runners. As for a game-plan for the race, in 2010 she said: "Good runners hold back and then make a move. I'm afraid I just went for it, flat-out." Asked whether it is easier after several runs, Jane explained that in her first race four years ago she found the atmosphere daunting: "You see a sea of faces, something you aren't used to. Then the following year it is more familiar so that you know what to expect." As OlneyOnline reported at the time, Jane was not allowed to compete again after the maximum three wins! Also pictured was Nicky Sallis who was in second place and ran to raise money for Whizzkids, a children's mobility charity. In the US, they follow the race with a parade.
