National Childbirth Trust - Olney Classes The NCT in Olney have a new antenatal teacher, Debbie Hewson, who will start running monthly antenatal courses in Olney. Bookings for this and future courses are being taken now – ring Ali Tierney on 0844 2436890 or e-mail bookings5m@nct.org.uk . Each course will have a maximum of eight couples which is great for forming new friendships without being overwhelmed. The course includes information about the birth process, the different stages of labour, how hormones affect birth, and self help skills. The rest of the course is designed by the parents attending and covers all manner of topics, usually drugs for pain relief, medical interventions, caesareans, along with coping with a crying baby, changing relationships, how to bath your baby, changing nappies and so on. Breastfeeding It also includes a 2 hour breastfeeding session with the branch breastfeeding counsellor, Karen Fell. Parents who have attended Debbie & Karen’s courses say they are relaxed, informal and fun! Karen is pictured right. You don't have to be on the courses to contact Karen on (01234) 713370. In term times, Karen also attends Bumps and Beyond on the first Monday of the month. Bumps
Bumps & Beyond is held on Mondays 10-11.30 in Room 4 of the Olney Centre. You can go along for a cuppa and a chat when you are still pregnant, and then with your new baby too. You can find out information about other local groups here too. This is a group aimed at bumps, babies and young toddlers with a relaxed and calm atmosphere – and there are toys for older siblings too. Contact Rebecca (picutred) on 01234 241858 for more information. Another great way to meet parents with similar aged babies is to join an NCT “coffee group”. Again, you can start to attend these when you are pregnant and continue meeting for as long as you want (our oldest group is over 20 years old!).
