Marathon Men

Despite the grotty weather, two men have been out pounding the streets of Olney as they prepare for this year's London Marathon.

Nick Pearce and Nigel Amos have til the 25th April to get themselves race fit. They also have another mission: to raise more than £1,500 each for a charity called, Whizz-Kidz. OlneyOnline asked Nigel about the challenge.

1) What are you doing to train?
"We are running at least three times a week, doing two runs in the evening of about 5 miles and doing a long run at the weekend which we increase each week.  So far we are up to running 14 Miles and it's surprising how many hills there are around Olney.  I suppose it is good training for the Marathon which is fairly flat thankfully!"

2) How do you feel about running the marathon?
"We are both fairly confident as the training is hard but we are on target. The weather hasn't been that kind with the snow and ice; not ideal running conditions in shorts and t-shirts!  It is quite exciting knowing that on the 25th April we will be running the 26.2 Miles and our aim is to try and just beat 4 hours (it will be close lets hope we are not having to sprint for the finish line!)
Raising the money for Whizz-kidz is also a fantastic motivator especially when doing the long training runs and will keep us going on the day!"

3) What is whizz-kidz?
"The charity helps disabled children and young people by providing mobility equipment including things like specialised electric wheel chairs that are not otherwise available to them.  This gives them independence and can help them to get out and about more and lead a more normal life. Both Nick and I both have two children young children and picked a charity that helps other less fortunate children."
