Cherry Fair The annual Olney summer fete, the 'Cherry Fair' offers a wide variety of stalls and fun demonstrations all in aid of local charities.
It is a Country Fair which harks back to the days when the town of Olney produced a large commercial cherry crop each year and the glut, at the end of the harvest, was sold off each year at the Cherry Fair.
As this fell so close to the Parish Church Patronal Festival for St Peter and St Paul, the whole town had a holiday and the travelling fair would come to town (as it will again this year). It is still the annual summer fair for the Parish Church and takes place in the Glebe Field in Church Street. A highlight is the Men’s Pancake Race will take place in Church Street and a Fancy Dress Parade which leaves The Market Place
Gates usually open at 1.00pm. Whether you want an energetic fun packed afternoon or just an opportunity to take afternoon tea within the environs of the church, there is something for everyone.
