Barn Dance for Charity Ahead of the Olney Newton Link's latest fundraiser - a barn dance - we asked the charity's Rachel Lintern about plans for 2010. What were the achievement for 2009 for the Olney Newton Link? "We are proud to report that the people of Olney raised over £16000 in 2009. The principal project was the Skills Training Centre in Newton and this is now almost ready to accept its first trainees. The schools in Olney and Lavendon now have very active links with 4 schools in Newton. Olney Infants and Olney Middle have recently sent £1400 to their schools to help repair dilapidated buildings. Ousedale(Olney) students have been busy in various ways and have recently collected stationery. Lavendon School is raising funds to repair their link school's toilets. It is very much hoped that a visit by a group of teachers from Olney will take place later this year. We have been able to purchase 8 pairs of breeding goats in 2009. These are bought in Newton and given to needy families. Details of these families will be available soon. This is an on going project and details can be obtained fro out treasurer, Tricia Selwood, on 712919." What are your plans for 2010? "One of our trustees, Claire Lintern, is planning a visit to Newton in April in order to see the building and negotiate with the Newton committee about what else will be needed. One of our ambitions for 2010 is to persuade some more of our businesses and organisations in the town to get involved. Support for charities by businesses can be of mutual benefit and we are very willing to discuss our ideas with anyone interested in helping us." The fundraising barn dance is being held on Saturday February 27th from 8pm til late at the Carlton House Club. For information on tickets (£6) please phone 711751. |
