Dickens of a Christmas FACT CHECKED 2015 Thousand people enjoy the entertainment, stalls and festive cheer of Olney's annual “Dickens of a Christmas" - held every year. We update our events calendar when the date is announced (usually the first Sunday of December). See our archive pictures and our report from a previous year to get a taste of the unique feel to the festivities, when there are plenty of Dickensian dresses, caps and top hats in evidence. The town is chock full of stalls in the Market Place, High Street and Farmers Market. There are also indoor craft fairs at The Bull, Olney Centre and Carlton House Club. Entertainers, Santa's grotto and horse and carriage rides always prove popular. Each year people show huge support for Dickens and thousands of pounds are raised for various local charities, with the pre-school, the Olney-Newton Link and the Scouts among the many to benefit because of the hard work of volunteers. 'Dickens' also attracts Christmas shoppers to the many independent shops and boutiques, cafes and restaurants in Olney and provided a boost for traders of the regular market and farmers market. |
