21st Nov MOBBS report

Mobbs Team

Olney Rugby Club were the hosts for the Under 9 MOBBS Qualification rounds on Sunday 21st Nov & a big thanks go out to all the parent helpers on the day to make this tournament a big success. Also many thanks to the referees & also Paul James, Fraser Bull & Jarleth McElroy, Val Wells for their help.
It was a tough long day for most of the boys which started for some at 8.30am, brought down by parents helping out. So  it was imperative we kept their energy & concentration levels up with them focused at the task at hand.

The last & most important game of the day against the winners of pool 2 Bugbrooke. We continued our form again with some great attacking rugby & awesome defensive play, yet again as we had all day we controlled where the game was played pushing into opposition territory & staying there until we scored. Some good mauling from Jay, Danny & Owen dictating up front with Teddy & Albert & Charlie all linking & creating chances in the backs, Oli B with not having much to do in the full back position all day ( credit to the way we played ) joined the centres creating havoc to the opposition with his well timed tackling & Tomos & Rhys again securing ball when loose. Joe, Harry, Thomas Brooks continued their devastating runs linking & supporting each other.

Over all an excellent effort from Bugbrooke but unfortunately for them Olney were on fire today & were not about to lose focus after getting this far, yet again well done boys & congratulations for a well deserved victory.

Olney win 30 – 0

Thomas Brooks 3, Joe Brock, Tomos Mather & Ben Merry
Very proud of the rugby played by the Olney RFC U9 A team during this competition, 30 tries scored NONE conceded, with some amazing performances coming from all members of the squad, regardless of our opposition we forced the games to be played in their half of the pitch, even when defending we pushed teams further back with some tremendous tackling until they made a mistake, with the ball in our hands it was a fine sight & teams struggled to keep up with the ball being recycled quickly time after time added to our direct running lines at pace & excellent support play we created space which eventually resulted in tries, victories & a place in the MOBBS final in April.
Olney U10 Match Report – 21st Nov 2010
This weekend all the Olney U10’s played fantastically. Collectively the 3 teams played 8 games, of which they won 7. In total they scored 32 tries, only conceding 3.
The Chariots represented us at the MOBBS tournament, and they all did us proud. They had an amazing unbeaten run in their pool, only conceding one try all morning. They beat Ampthill (B) 25-0, Brackley 15-0, Leighton Buzzard 10-5, and finally Dunstable 15 – 0. As pool winners they made the final, where after another extremely physical match with Ampthill, and although drawing at half time, they eventually ended the morning as the tournaments runner ups, losing to Ampthill 0-10. Although there could have been many choices for cup winner this week, the parents voted for Georgia Brock for an outstanding performance. (Chariots tournament team :- Ben Brear, Georgia Brock, Struan Brooks, Jacob Demain, Alex Demontes, James Herman, Charlie Hicks, James Kilburn, Barnaby May, Rhys Stickland, Angus Vincent).

The Dragons and Devils were invited to Towcester, (many thanks to them for being such good hosts). The 1st game saw the Devils beat Towcester 25-5 (tries Zack Parkinson, Lottie Robinson, Ollie Megeary, Pat Bull, and William Daw). This was followed by the Dragons winning 40-0 (tries Ben Roworth 3, Myles Barnwell 2, Josh Baker 2, James Thomason). The Devils and Dragons then played each other, resulting in an extremely competitive 10-10 draw, and then finally they joined forces to play a final game against Towcester, which they won 30-0 (tries Zack Parkinson 2, Louis Fielden, Ollie Megeary, Toby May, Josh Baker). Cup winners this week were Ben Roworth for his hat trick in the 2nd match, and Louis Fielden who whilst making a run for the line, was hit in the face and ended up with a bloody nose, but didn’t stop running and ended up scoring a try!

The Olney RFU Under 7s won the final of the Mobbs tournament held on 21st November 2010 at Biggleswade.  All the children played some fantastic rugby and their coaches were extremely proud of what they achieved.  The nine players included Scott Hales, Morgan Wilmer, Mitchell James, Matthew Lavender, Luke Folds, Thomas Herman, Jasper Cumming, James Bennett and Johnnie Kemp.  All Olney players scored at least one or more of the team’s 21 tries.  There was some fantastic tagging in defence from the Olney players and all the team remained focused and determined throughout what was a challenging set of opponents, particularly Ampthill in the final.  Olney now play the winners of the Kettering group in the final.
Olney vs Towcester - Olney won 7 to 5
Olney vs Ampthill A - Olney won 5 to 4
Olney vs Bedford Blues A - Olney won 6 to 3
Olney vs St Neots - we got a bye as St Neots withdrew!
Olney vs Ampthill B - Olney won 3 to 0
